Stay safe during winter storms

Road With Low Visibility Due to Fog

The DC area was bombarded by winter weather over the weekend, with a couple inches of snow falling and temperatures dropping as low as 30 degrees. While that didn't stop the Redskins from losing to Kansas City at FedEx Field, it did result in suboptimal conditions for anyone who hadn't yet had their Washington DC heating repair contractor perform an annual inspection of their heating system.

The Washington Post reports that although there was some ice accumulation overnight, road conditions appear to be okay and drivers should expect most highways and streets to be open. However, they urge pedestrians to be careful about sidewalks, which can become hazardous when covered in ice.

In addition to being careful while you're out of the house, you should also make sure that your home is a safe place during this kind of weather by following these tips:

  • Have a set of flashlights and a portable radio in the event of a power outage.
  • Keep a fresh supply of water available in the event that your water system fails, either due to freezing pipes or a problem with the water department.
  • This storm was relatively mild compared to most, but in the event that you come across downed power lines from wind, stay away from them as they could still be live.

Now that winter weather is finally here, it's past time to have a DC heating repair contractor come visit your home and perform an inspection of your HVAC system to make sure it's ready for the next few months of heavy use. Make sure to give John C. Flood a call today and we'll get your system up and running efficiently.
