How to fix a clogged sink

One of the most frustrating things that any homeowner will have to deal with is a clogged sink. Whether that sink is in the bathroom or the kitchen, nobody wants to see the water back up and be unable to go down the drain. It is especially important to make sure that all of your pipes are in top working order over the next couple of weeks, particularly if you are hosting family and friends for the holidays. But if you are confronted with a clogged sink, there are plenty of ways you can fix the issue.

The first thing you should do is try and unstop the sink the same way you would with a toilet. A plunger will work well here, especially if the clog is in a large kitchen or bathroom sink. If you do not have a plunger that will work, try using a drain snake, as you will be able to get the device in direct contact with whatever is creating the blockage. A drain snake is generally effective because you can use them to break apart the clog until it is small enough to drain away correctly.

If a plunger or snake is ineffective, you can always try using materials that you have available around the house. Vinegar and baking soda combined will be able to dissolve anything that is creating the clog, as long as you let the mixture sit in the sink for at least a few minutes. This will also help clean out the pipe and leave you with a sink that drains more efficiently than ever.
