How to prevent clogs in your shower's drain

When you are getting ready for work or school in the morning, you want to get through your morning routine as quickly as possible. The last thing you want to deal with is a clogged shower, especially if you are in a rush. There are many reasons that a shower drain will clog, just like all of the other areas in your home that are vulnerable, which means there are plenty of things you can be doing in order to keep the shower draining as efficiently as possible. You don't have to be a plumbing expert to fix the problem!

One of the easiest things you can do is pour a gallon of boiling water down the drain at least once each month. This will help loosen any gunk or debris that has built up over the past few weeks and allow the water to pass through more easily. Shower drains are commonly stopped up by hairs and other small items, so you should have a hair trap put over the drain before you continue using the shower. This will help keep materials from going down that could end up causing a clog down the road.

Another way to stop clogs at the source is to have a water softener installed in your home. Hard water from the shower drain creates thick calcium deposits and cause residue to form inside of the drains, preventing the water from draining correctly. With a water softener, you will not run the risk of these blockages being formed.
