Reasons for a warm refrigerator

Woman Avoiding Smelling Spoiled Food

As everybody knows, the refrigerator is one of the most important appliances in any household. There are very few people today who could easily get along without their refrigerators, because of the convenience they offer storing items until they are ready to be consumed. The refrigerator helps to ensure that the food is safe to eat by keeping it cold and preventing them from spoiling until it expires. If your refrigerator breaks down and is warm, you risk losing all of the food that is stored inside.

Here are a few reasons that could be responsible for your warm refrigerator:

  • Broken thermostat: A temperature control unit that is not properly working will keep your refrigerator hotter than you want it. Refrigerators are usually kept around zero degrees Celsius, which is what you should keep your thermostat set to. If changing the temperature does not fix the problem, a technician should be called in to fix it.
  • Dirty condenser coils: The condenser coils in the back of the refrigerator that take heat away from the machine can become dirty with substances from the floor over time. To prevent the coils from becoming clogged and useless, unplug the appliance and clean them off regularly.
  • Faulty door gaskets: Every individual refrigerator is built with door gaskets that ensure the refrigerator is air-tight every time it is closed. If they are torn or loosened over time this will result in the cold air leaking out. Your refrigerator will not be able to keep itself cool until the gaskets are replaced.
