Not in every case. Arlington requires a mechanical permit for adding, removing, or relocating furnaces, ductwork, and related equipment. Replacing equipment of the same type, size, and location does not require one unless it is fueled by gas, in which case a plumbing and gas permit applies instead. When no permit is required, Arlington asks that you check with Zoning on the placement of any outdoor equipment.
Arlington requires it. When a fuel-burning appliance is replaced or newly installed in an existing building, the connected vent or chimney has to be inspected to confirm it is sized correctly under the building code and is clean, unobstructed, and in operable condition. A completed Chimney Vent Certification form goes to the county. Our technicians evaluate the venting as part of any fuel-burning installation.
It can be. Arlington classifies some residential properties as commercial under the building code, which means the work gets permitted as a commercial project rather than a residential one. Your building may also have its own rules covering access, work hours, and equipment in closets or on the roof. We sort that out before scheduling the work.
The county inspects it. Once your permit is approved, inspections are scheduled through Arlington, and whoever is on site that day has to contact the assigned inspector in the morning, because an inspection with no contact gets cancelled.
