The average homeowner or renter, depending on the age of the home, will need to call a plumber once every three years. There are several common plumbing problems that you might be able to handle on your own— clogged drains, burst pipes, running toilets, leaky faucets, hot water heater issues or low water pressure are just a few common reasons homeowners and property managers need a professional plumber. Schedule service now.

If your sewer line is backing up, your basement is flooding, or your septic tank is leaking, it’s time to call a plumbing professional. At John C. Flood, we have the knowledge and experience to handle any plumbing problem quickly and efficiently. Learn more about our plumbing services.

We recommend regular inspection and maintenance of your home’s plumbing system. John C. Flood can also add you to our list of checkup customers. We’ll inspect your water heater, garbage disposal, and every pipe and drain of your home’s plumbing system. Catch small problems before they grow. Learn more about our service partner programs.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
Your HVAC system’s job is to maintain a comfortable indoor air temperature. It’s often used all day, every day, especially in the Alexandria and Northern Virginia area, where we experience hot summers and cold winters.

Even the best, most sophisticated systems will develop problems under those circumstances—and that’s when it’s time to call in a professional service technician. We can diagnose and treat problems from the most common to the most complicated. Schedule service now.

Does your house feel warmer than it should even when the AC is working overtime? Are your electricity bills getting higher? Are you seeing condensation drips and leaks around your furnace? The problem could be low refrigerant. Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air as it travels through your system.

You may also have a dirty or clogged air filter. If air can’t flow through the filter, the HVAC system will work harder but less efficiently. While you can check and replace your air filter yourself, low refrigerant isn’t a problem you can fix yourself—only a professional can find and repair the leak, top off the refrigerant levels, and make sure that everything is working properly once again.

For more information on the rising costs of refrigerant, read our blog post here.

What if your air conditioning isn’t working at all? First, check to see if the thermostat is turned on (check the batteries!), set to cool, and set below room temperature. Check all circuit breakers in the home and reset them if necessary. If your AC unit has a condensate pump, make sure it’s working—it may have a safety switch that shuts off the outdoor unit if the pump fails.
Ensure that there is no dirt, debris, or plants blocking the airflow of the condenser, and see if the condenser coil itself is clean. If these simple solutions don’t help, call John C. Flood’s friendly service department for diagnosis and assistance.

For a major electromechanical problem, our professional service technicians can diagnose and replace a failing condenser fan motor or evaporator blower motor, a burned-out capacitor, a blown fuse or breaker, a dirty or cracked evaporator coil, or a leaky cooling tower.

Don’t Forget: regular preventative maintenance like replacing filters and keeping outdoor units clean and clear will prolong the life of your HVAC system and decrease both operating and repair costs. Sign up for our service partner programs.

"Estimator Dan Mayo provided a free estimate and video snake analysis of my main sewer line. He was very nice. I had been told that I needed a full replacement of my sewer drain by a different company, but Dan said that he wouldn't recommend a replacement at this time. It was refreshing to hear a plumber explain that I need LESS work than I expected... As most of these guys shoot for the moon and tell you to fix everything every time."

"I have used this company for 5 years and overall I am pleased. Wonderful telephone customer service. The technicians are knowledgeable, and pleasant. I renewed my annual contract without hesitation."

We have used JC Flood for all of our plumbing needs since our new home purchase in 2011and have been more than pleased with their service, responsiveness and prices. So when deciding to upgrade our master bathroom, they were the only company we considered. JC Flood transformed our bathroom from drab and outdated to bright and modern. We couldn't be happier...thanks JC Flood!

I wanted to express in writing my appreciation for the thorough review provided today by Raul on the two A/C systems I have under contract with you. He was clearly comprehensive in his check-up on my older (upstairs) unit and fully explained his recommendations to me. On one issue in particular, he pointed out that my compressor on that unit was not level and the problem that could cause. He then leveled the unit saving me that work. I found Raul to be polite, considerate and, most importantly, thorough in his servicing of my A/C systems. It’s service such as this that keeps me as a John C. Flood contract customer. Thank you.

"I called John C. Flood around 9 o'clock am and the plumber was at my house 2 hours later. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem, gave me a price and made the necessary repairs. I was extremely pleased with my overall experience with the company and will definitely use them in the future."

Varnell W.

"Some quick feedback based on another winning visit from Dale this morning: not only do I dig the "heads up" e-mail including the name and pic of the technician scheduled to come out but the new tablet-based invoice stuff is very cool! Well done! Thank you."

Joe G.

"I’ve had a very good experience with them. They’ve serviced my AC and boiler. The boiler required some repairs and they were able to come out quickly and get my heat back on. Jeff was a huge help."
