Try a Booster Fan to Increase Your AC’s Airflow

If you feel like you’re not getting the most out of your AC, especially in areas of your house located far from the main unit, there may be a simple way to give it a little extra power.

Booster fans can do just that. One of these devices will increase airflow through your ducts and help balance the amount of cool air getting into all of your rooms. The farther away from the main fan a room is, the longer the air has to travel, and with the turns and twists in Ductwork, some airflow is bound to be lost. This is doubly true for the rooms upstairs, as cold air does not naturally rise.

Both types of boosting fans can be installed by any competent do-it-youselfer. If you have just one room or vent with a decreased output, you may choose the vent fan. The duct fan, however, is installed directly into the duct system and will boost airflow to an entire area. Placing one device in a duct or over a vent has the potential of increasing cooling in a room by up to 20 or 30 cubic meters.

When thinking of buying a booster fan, ensure that the sizing is correct. If you get a fan significantly smaller than the duct, it could result in loud rattling . Another thing to keep in mind is that if the airflow problem starts at the furnace fan then buying these quick solutions won’t help. If this is the case, you should call John C Flood.
